---------------------------------------------
"HAH, now prize moneey!!~"
"Man, you suck!"
"Must be worse than me if ya lost, LOSER! Get outta here, Snowpoint SUCKS!"
I took the prize money from the boy in the red coat and stared at my next opponent in line. He stood at a good 6 foot some-inches long and wore a white coat, its hood almost surely made of fur. He looked like an elder, holding a cane and his hair slightly whitening, though that could be snow as well. He was most certainly a Snowpoint native.
"So I hear you come from Eterna, boy." he croaked as he pulled a new looking Ultra Ball out of his pocket.
I studied him intensely, his stare was that of Clair's, the Blackthorn city's gym leader. It was definitely tougher than Gardenia's, the gym leader back home at Eterna.
"Somewhere like that, what's it matter to you?" I responded, as I waved to Dragonair to come closer.
This was definitely a very strong opponent. All the young boys and even adults that had come before that answered to my cocky shouts at the town square certainly did NOT give off this kind of aura. He gave off a sense of experience and strength. His stare pierced my mind and did it's best to crack me.
Thankfully, having experienced this before I knew not to back down and instead fight his stare, even though he kept the attack going, even as he spoke.
"It means you certainly don't understand just how strong Snowpoint City is. It matters to me because YOU are about to learn a lesson, boy."
The man looked straight at me and then pointed his cane straight towards the woods near Mt. Coronet.
"There. We battle there." He began walking before I even answered back, and I immediately responded with rage.
"HEY. YOU are here on MY terms. Don't you dare think I will listen to you just because you're my "elder" or anything old man!"
The oldie looked at me with a scowl on his face, and then continued onward. My blood boiled. Never before had I seen someone, so arrogant, so cocky, so retarded that they would do this to me. My signals at Dragonair had gotten through. She hurled a Fire Blast she had been aiming for some time now towards the old man, and it seemed to catch him off guard.
BOOM! Yes, direct hit. His Abomasnow leaps out of the Poke Ball just in time to protect him, but it seems I still got the job done.
"Now, good sir, if you would so kindly hand me my prize money, that would be great!"
The geezer stared at me with a stunned face, that suddenly hurled into a rage.
"YOU. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF HONOR!?!?!? YOU ARE AN UNCULTURED SWINE! FORGIVE ME ARCEUS BUT DISHONORABLE CHILDREN LIKE YOU NEED TO BE PUNISHED, LEARN SOME RESPECT, BOY!"
I stared blankly at him. I smiled roughly and burst into a full laugh.
"Really. Really geezer, YOU are going to punish ME? Don't make me laugh dumbass. Hahahaha I can't stop laughing, really nice joke man, are you a comedian? Cause you definitely make some nice jokes, the only better jokes are those idiots lined up to give me free money. HAHAHA!"
Dragonair curled up next to me, showing a slight laugh herself. Only natural, she's been getting me some nice money for quite some time, even when I went home for some sleep, she stayed up here all night, just to get me some nice money. Hmm, maybe I should get her some rest, or even a coat. She has been here for like a full day in the cold. I stared at Dragonair. Nah, she's strong, she can probably keep training for a solid day more. Maybe some more elixirs for her Fire Blast and that should do. I look up and see geezer turning red. His face clearly needed some lightening up, it was clearly visible through all this snow.
"Hey old man, you look like a damn Chimchar, what happened?"
"WHAT HAPPENED??? SOME SWINE JUST DECIDED TO ATTACK AN OLD MAN THAT WAS SIMPLY LOOKING TO TEST HIM!"
"Test me? Listen old man, I don't need no testing for NOTHING!! NOTHING, I know I am strong, all I need to do is take Dragonair here to the Pokemon League and I'll be the Pokemon League Champion! All the royalties shall be mine! I might send some handsome Pokemon towards Dragonair too, though she'll definitely be a Dragonite by then or else I'll just find another partner, hahaha!"
Dragonair scowled at me then continued to laugh. She looked at the line of challengers then looked at the Cherubi colored old man. I could tell she wanted to go ham and since she has been here a while, I decided to grace her.
I turned towards the challengers, "Yo, listen up! I'll be taking on old man Charmander face here and then I'll find you all soon, I still need to get some free money anyway. But Dragonair here wants to teach this guy a lesson so wait up alright? It's not like you losers have anything else to do, heh." I yelled loud enough for them to hear, and they seemed to back off with no hesitation for some reason, huh go figure they're bigger pushovers than the dumbasses in Mt.Coronet.
"Now, old man, shall we go somewhere..obscure, Dragonair goes absolutely HAM when she goes all-out!" I snicker as I say the last part, going "HAM" is an understatement considering the last time she did, she nearly tore Gardenia's gym in half.
The old man turned less red, and yelled back "Fine. Follow me there is an arena not to far. But will your Pokemon even make it there, boy? Dragons aren't exactly meant to be near ice."
"Who? Dragonair? Nah she's fine, if she was so weak as to not be able to travel in icy environments, I wouldn't even keep her, heh."
That was partly true, but I had definitely molded her into being able to withstand ice. Besides other dragons and fairies, that was her only weakness, and when I last visited Blackthorn for the last time, I spent much time training her when she was just a Dratini to be able to easily take down other dragons and even kept her in the Icy Path for a good week to ensure she wouldn't be a wimp when she had to face ice-types. She evolved when we took down Clair, and that was definitely nice.
"Tch. Cocky boy. You will learn soon that cocky is a bad thing, boy."
"Yeah, and you'll learn to stop thinking you're the shit old man. Hope you can even get home when I break your damn legs after kicking your damn ass. Gonna have to break your cane in half too, heh and nobody will know you're missing. Big mistake trying to take me on, old man." I yell over the now harsher snowstorm. There was a blizzard rolling in, but the old man seemed unfazed by even my words.
His voice suddenly tensed.. did I hear a.. laugh?
"Heh, sure kid. Just follow."
He led me towards the woods. I kept a far distance at all times, keeping him in range of my hearing and vision, but outside his surprise attack range. I look over his shoulder and see an old arena. It was definitely old, it had a wooden board keeping score of the battles instead of a automatic one like the ones gym leaders have today.
"Here. Now boy, who will you send out?"
"Her." I point towards Dragonair, "She's my best, my only, and my favorite. Nobody else is needed to defeat the trash near the city and the garbage gym leaders like Candice."
He was surprised by my last remark, "You.. you've beaten Candice?"
"Heh, yea, take a look!" I pull out my gym badges. Rising Badge, Fog Badge, Plain Badge, Forest Badge, and my newly acquired Icicle Badge, "Pretty neat, huh?"
"Hmm half of those are from another region... Johto?"
"Yea, I come from Blackthorn, name's Frog... your's?"
The old man shifted, "I've got many names,my most famous being Winter. I come from Sin-"
Enough pleasntries, Dragonair ran straight at him, his Frosslass blocking a direct hit from her Dragon Tail.
Frosslass fell to the ground. Typical, can't even take a hit, just like Candice's. Though Candice's did fall more.. gracefully, oh well.
The old man looked shocked, then he stared at Dragonair for a while.
"I almost felt bad about doing what I am planning to do, but no more. I see you are treated horribly by your trainer, but you are no better. Trash really, both of you. Both uncultured swines. Now, go Glaceon!"
It fell even faster than Frosslass, but I could sense something wrong with Dragonair. Her body.. it was in pain.. lots of it. Then I saw, the damn Frosslass had Switcheroo'd a Toxic Orb onto her, damn clever.
"Hah, nice trick, but Dragonair, drop it, and come here girl," I apply an antidote while Winter sends out his next Pokemon. Is that.. no. No.
"ARTICUNO GO!"
Winter sends out an Articuno. I am not afraid of any legendary, I trust my Dragonair, but the antidote is still taking effect.
"BLIZZARD!!!"
Hmm cocky move, won't pay off. He had a full attack to land and he goes for that move. Pathetic. My Dragonair dodges and promptly slaps the bird with a Fire Blast. Huh, it lived... or not, guess the burn took it down.
"So old man, gonna do any damage some time soon? That's a rare legendary Pokemon you got there. Would be a shame if someone pilfered it and ran off."
"Heh. Boy you understand nothing. Kyurem, GO!"
Wait.. Kyurem?? Who the hell was I facing here... no problem though, easily taken down by my Dragonair... or so I thought.
"Dragonair, DRAGON TAIL, GOGOGO!"
Kyurem lauched Blizzards and managed to somehow miss an Avalanche, heh stupid Pokemon.
"That's some heavy hitters you got there old man, how'd ya get them?"
"None of your business. Now, SNOVER GO!"
Snover?... Did I hear that right? A SNOVER?
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! By Arceus, you send out so many heavy hitters, then a pathetic excuse for a Pokemon?? You are RETARDED old man, R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D, RETARDED!" Seriously, this old man definitely suffers from some sickness, what a dumb Pokemon to carry around.
The old an smiled. "Did you really think I've even been trying this whole time? DID YA REALLY? An Articuno, getting shut down in ONE HIT? A KYUREM LOSING TO A DRAGONAIR? Heh I've seen Slakoth smarter than you, boy. But now, this Snover I bred should be taking ya down, boy! HAHA!"
Then it hit me. That Articuno didn't faint. He fell down after getting burnt. The Kyurem just kinda fell also. Then what could...
I looked behind me. Nothing. What the hell could he be planning. I kept calm on the outside, but I knew when I was being played. This man had duped me, what is he planning? What is he doing???
"Heh of course I know, but no matter, my Dragonair will put down any PoKeMon that get ner me... hehehaeh." My voice was falling, breaking.
For the first time in my life I felt legitametly terrified. This man was out of my league, and now I knew, but no way was I gonna fall here, so I kept on going.
"Heh, pa-patheiic excuthe fir a Pokeon you got dere... Haha.. hah.." I was terrified, and at this point Dragonair knew too, the end of her tail tingled, I knew that was a sign of her wanting to leave, but no, that would be cowardice.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA is that.. is that fear, boy? YES I can hear it speak up, boy can't hear you over the hyperventilation."
"Screw off geezer!" But my voice is falling now, and I can feel the coldness closing in, the Snover in front of me charging its move. No, Dragonair Dodge.
DODGE. DODGE. DODGE. My voice, I'm terrified this man, I just now realize my moves did nothing. Did his Glaceon really faint? Did his Frosslass really faint? No, no please no, this was a nightmare. I look at Dragonair.
PHOOOWSH. I stare blankly. She was blown right past me. I stare even more, my eyes in complete terror. My biggest fear coming through.. could I really be losing? NO DAMMIT NO PLEASE NO! I needed to wake up NOW! I pinch my arm... not a dream... I fall to my knees, tears building up.
"HAHAHAHA. Stupid boy."
The geezer was right next to my Dragonair now. His Snover stood next to me. The next series of images flashed by as I watched him take his cane.. and THWACK. I saw, my eyes unflinching. His cane beat down on Dragonair like a drum. I tried to move, but I couldn't. Literally I couldn't. The ground around me froze and Snover stood over me like a beast. I looked into the eyes of the Snover. It wasn't long before I felt it.. that Blizzard. It kept coming, and I was so cold. Too cold. I couldn't take it.
I cried. Like a little kid I cried. Dragonair shrieked in pain. This man and this Snover were ruthlessly beating us and nobody would help. Then suddenly I see something were those.. people, I felt relieved, they would surely stop him. Then I looked closer. It was the boy in the red coat. And his friend. And those were the boys that also came to challenge me. Snover laid down harsher snow. I curled up in a ball. I could hear laughs.
I looked towards Dragonair, Winter was still going at her. Then suddenly I hear a snap. Rage fills me. This old geezer, Winter, Summer, whatever his name was, was beating Dragonair ruthlessly. MY Dragonair. The tears are gone. I run at him, and I manage a battle cry as I tackle him. But he was stronger than he looked. He flips me as I run towards him. Besides me was Dragonair. Her breaths were short, rapid. I look at Winter, next to him the boys and Snover.
"So, Winter, did ya really need to do this to him?"
"Yes. This boy knows nothing of honor. I don't care if I serve another 20 years, I'm already dead anyway, they took my damn gym. And all I did was teach that other punk a lesson, too! How dare he come into my gym and break a damn window."
"My.. gym?" I manage a whisper. My eyes bloodshot can't seem to pick up which direction is which. I remember now, I remember reading this in an old article my dad had pasted on his desk while doing his police work.
Winter: The Snowpoint City Gym Leader, Arrested for Brutally Beating a Teen Trainer, and Killing The Trainer's Dratini.
"No. NO," I let out a shriek, this man had come here with the intention of taking me down and killing another Pokemon. No not happening. I would protect Dragonair if it cost me my life.
"Huh. My name ring a bell in ya, Jason Brew?"
Brew? He knew my name?
"How.. how.." my guard went down, and the Blizzard died down as well.
"Your father was an ass, kid. He came here doing his damn police work for the temple up north, and suddenly, he catches me killing a damn Dratini, boo hoo, my bad! The damn kid needed a lesson! But nooo your daddy had to come up and damn near kill me while he cuffed me and sent me off for 20 DAMN YEARS. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT DOES TO A MAN??? I WAS YOUNG DAMMIT! I WAS YOUNG!" He calmed down, and the boys panicked, they ran off. "So, when I heard his boy had come down to visit, I thought I would pay him a visit. At first I was planning to scare ya. Then I saw potential, kid. I thought I might train ya, send a recommendation over to the Pokemon League, being an ex-Gym Leader and all, but no, after you attacked me, I knew all bets were off. You ARE your father's son and I think.. a little revenge might not hurt. Not me at least. Heh I'm almost dead, but your dad? He'll have a clean couple more years. And whatever will he do when his son "gets trapped in a blizzard"? Is he gonna cry? I hope he does. All he can do is put me in jail longer, hahahaha!" This man was mad. Clearly. I looked over my shoulder. Dragonair was breathing normally again. I had to go for it. No "Cowardice" bullshit. This man was a criminal, too dangerous.
"DRAGONAIR FIRE BLAST GOGOGO!" I stood up ready to run after the aftermath, but I just fall. There were roots at my feet. The Fire Blast missed.
"This Snover here, by the way, has a nice history. Took down a whole Garchomp squad. Too bad it won't be using any power to take you down. Now, if I may I better get going. Dinner needs to be served, Snover finish them and come back." The old man hobbled into the distance, leaving me, Dragonair and this damn Snover in a pile.
"Hey man, don't be this way I just gott-"
The Blizzard was point blank range. All I could feel was cold. All I could taste was cold. All I could see was the Snover. He stared at us while I did my best to reach for Dragonair. Damn I wish I had brought her Poke Ball! Dammit! Then came another blizzard. I cried out in pain. Dragonair mirrored it. I couldn't sit here anymore, and these roots were beginning to tangle my feet.
The Snover stood over me, looking straight into my eyes. He locked eyes with me and then looked at Dragonair. I looked at myself. Pathetic. Couldn't even move.
Ice Beam after Ice beam happened as Snover aimed at my Dragonair. My eyes widened as I saw her skin. The ice was injuring her, and badly. I look at Snover. Fear paralyzes me for a second before I grab a root and pull it out of the snow. Snover looked at me, bewildered, and for a second stunned. All I needed was that second. I grabbed Dragonair and dragged her through the snow. I ran as fast as I could and didn't look back, tree after tree as the snowstorm raged. I stop after a good hour of dragging Dragonair through the snow. I take a look and I fear I might've made this worse. Her skin was certainly in a horrible state, cuts everywhere and ice covering her body in small clumps. I take a break, my breaths more of a cry and my crying more of a squeal. I weep into my sleeve and wonder how I got here.
Then suddenly I hear it again, no doubt, it was that Snover. I look up and see its not nearby. Its just screwing with me. Dammit, no I needed to get out now. I don't have the strength to carry Dragonair so I apologize and drag her through the snow once again. I have no sense of direction and I just focus on getting her out of here. I can hardly breathe as I run farther and farther. Every rest I take and I can hear the Snover. I can hear his cries and his footsteps and can feel his blizzards, his roots wrap themselves on my legs as I re-imagine the scene. I fall on the snow and look around. The Snover is gone, but the snowstorm is in full blizzard form. I take a look at Dragonair and the cuts are deep, ingrained on her skin. I scream for help but nothing comes out of my mouth. I left Electabuzz back home, despite my parents saying I need to bring another Pokemon. I was so confident, I was such a dumbass. So cocky and now I was gonna pay for it, with my life.
I laid back on the snow, accepting my fate, when I hear a faint cry from Dragonair. For her sake, at least her sake I need to go back. But dragging her won't work she already built up so many scars. I start to pick her up and instantly fall down. Too heavy, but I need to do this, for her, I need to get her back. If she dies here I won't be a trainer at all, no matter how many battles I won, no matter how hard I trained. I pick her up, newfound motivation and pure adrenaline helping me carry her now. I drag my feet through the snow and slowly head back. As I pass the woods I hear it again. Snover, DAMMIT! I look back and I see so many of them they come near me and try to grab me.
"GET AWAY FROM ME! GET AWAY!" I scream at the Snover surrounding me. The smallest one of the herd comes near me extending what looks like a herbal medicine. I look at it in terror, and I slap it out of its hands. Then I push the Snover back onto the snow as I fall back in pure terror. Two bigger, and scarier Abomasnow tower over me, staring at me and growling. I cry in terror and do my best to shield Dragonair and cover her uppermost parts. I curl over her for what seems like an hour before the demons leave. I look up and see the herd leaving, and grab the nearest stones and hurl it at them.
"GET OUT! LEAVE! NOBODY WANTS YOU GUYS! GET OUT!" The Snover look back at me, and the Abomasnow only growl at me as they back away. The image burns into my mind as I see the baby Snover turn to me and it begins to make me feel cold all over again.
I howl in pain as I hear another cry from Dragonair again. I remember what I need to do. I pick her up as the images of Snover flood my mind. I stumble as I spot a nearby house. I see multiple houses, no doubt this is Snowpoint. I overhear nearby conversations:
"So, yeah I was thinking, maybe add THIS in to make the gym more lively!"
"Uhh sure Candice, but are you really sure we should be adding thi-"
I stumble into them, tears down my face, and fall flat on my arm. I howl in pain again, realizing this was the side that I held over me as the Snover pelted me with snow. I look up, straight into the people before me, and see the look in their eyes. Shock. Disgust. Pity. I had fallen so low, but all I wanted was my Dragonair to live.
"Pleas.. Dragona... Poke- Center... please.. Snover.. Winter... Cane... help." I manage to let out these tiny words as the fear, adrenaline, pain, sadness, anger all leave me at once and all I can feel is my body. The muscles here and there are crying in pain, my arm lets out pain in another form, red and thick liquid pours from it. I look down at it and all I can do is watch.
"GET HIM TO A CENTER NOW!" screams the female voice above me, "NOW!"
All I remember past that are the eyes glaring in my direction as I am lifted an carried off, and with much effort I turn to see Dragonair also on the man's shoulder.
I manage a couple whispers as I am hoisted onto a stretcher alongside Dragonair, "Hey.. girl. I'm so sorry. All my life I've been so mean to ya. I'm an ass ya know?"
I hear Dragonair cry and see her turn to me, tears in her eyes.
"Hey, girl I.. no more battling for us okay? I.. I've been so.. so cocky. I'm so, so, so sorry..." My voice drifts off as the lights in the center flash, and I hear the rushing footsteps of the doctors and Chansey, Blissey, Audino, all surround me. The pulse they send out feels amazing, but the pain is still there, the red fluid not stopping. My eyes are turning black. I feel so.. tired. I try to close them and I see a doctor above me. Is he... is he saying not to sleep? But I.. I feel so tired. I look at Dragonair. She is lifted onto a different bed, sent to another part of the Center. I look up and try to ask if she'll be okay, but nothing comes out. I see a bright light. Needles poke into my arms and my clothes are ripped. My arm stings, but I can't do anything, I have lost all strength. The light, I've identified as the light in this room. The nurse tells me its okay to sleep, and before I know it, I'm out cold.
SLAM
"Owww! Wh-"
Dragonair looms over me. I lay with cold sweat pouring down my body and notice my surroundings. There is a desk. A chair. I lay on a bed. Back to the real world. Dragonair stares at me worryingly, but I pet her head.
"Sorry, I know I promised I would never do that again. But hey! At least the roommate isn't here yet, right?!"
Dragonair looks at me mischievously.
"What did you do Dragonair???"
She smiles and takes me to the opposite bed. Under the sheets lays a big, fake Ariados.
"Wow, nice uhh, wait where did you even get that? I never had one.. wait that isn't fake.."
I spend the next hour running from a hungry Ariados.
